Pattern 1822 Pipeback, help with mark/stamp to hilt

Post by RGJDEE » Thu Feb 21, 2019 4:58 pm

Hello,
I’m new to swords (though have been aquiring bayonets for a while)
I recently aquired this piece and there are no marks apart from this one to the hilt.
Does anyone have any ideas ?
Thanks in advance
Richard.

Hello Richard and welcome to our new forum. Your sword of course is an 1822 infantry officers’ pattern made c. 1838-45. However, as to the stamp on the hilt, which appears to be ‘JC’, I’m afraid I cannot help. I wonder if any of our Victorian sword specialists can assist?
Richard
PS, bizarrely it looks identical to the stamp of Jean Cazamajou found on French First Empire swords but of course it cannot be him.

Thanks for getting back to me Richard.
Here’s hoping someone can solve the puzzle
Been collecting P1907 Bayonets for a while,
Now have the bug for swords !
So far have four, last two are Cavalry Sabres
(P1885.& P1912 the latter I’m awaiting delivery)
Thanks again. R
