For sale - more details please contact me on paulw@london.com. A Presentation Sword 39” overall. 32” straight, tapered blade with a hollow ground double edged blue & gilt & frost etched blade. The first 20” blue & gilt, the remainder frost etched. To one side frost etched with foliate swags & the figure of Victory, the blue & gilt with crowned GR, foliate panels an Royal Coat of Arms, presentation inscription in a tablet ‘To Lieutenant Commandand Samuel Walker from the Strathforth and Tickhill Regiment of Local Militia 1812’; With a seated Britannia & warriors bearing arms. To the other side frost etched with foliage including roses & thistles, a crown & a cherub. In the blue & gilt, in a ribbon ‘A Regimental Token of Respect’ with further cherubs & trophies of arms, figures of Poseidon, & ‘Warranted’ in a ribbon. 1796 Cavalry officer’s dress sword style hilt, with gilt boat shaped shell guard, ‘D’ shaped gilt knucklebow, urn shaped pommel with scrolling acanthus leaves. Ivory grip engraved with basketwork & gold nails, reeded edges highlighted with gold nails, oval gold escutcheons. In its original black leather & engraved gilt mounted scabbard. The gilt mounts engraved with Greek key pattern & bold acanthus swags. The center mount engraved with a spread eagle & shield, the bottom mount engraved with royal crown, roses, thistles & acanthus leaves. Top mount engraved on the reverse in a tablet ‘Osborn & Gunby Birmingham Sword Cutler to His Majesty & His Royal Highness the Prince Regent’ Dated 1812 Price £11,250
