4 DG Early 1853p Cavalry Sword

Postby Will Mathieson » Wed Oct 28, 2015 3:57 pm

An early Liege inspected 1853p cavalry sword marked to the 4th Dragoon Guards. This sword has the same markings as my 11th Hussars 1853p sword. Charge of Heavy Brigade??
The "100" mark most likely a production number, my 11th Hussars sword has 76 in the same location on the guard.

Impossible to say. What you need is a Crimea photograph showing a trooper of the 4DG ....

I've been looking but only the 5th DG seems to be photographed. A 5DG trooper is pictured with the 1821p sword circ 1856.

The assumed fact all regiments were equipped with the 1853p sword before the end of the Crimea War may not be true.
