I've just been tempted by this - anyone ever seen one before?

Haven't seen one like this before. The blade fullers are exceptional and really show off the blade.
Believe the knot is original?

Yes, an unusual blade form as well as an unusual hilt. I found another HEIC hilt - the famous Wallis & Wallis Sale 189 lot 1169 below (although you can't see the guard from this angle).

Hi Richard,

Lovely sword and certainly not a common type of blade. One observation re the hilt, is that the lion is portrayed in the opposite direction to that which is normally encountered in heraldry.

Can you possibly provide the blade width, length and curve drop to the cutting edge, from a straight line back edge at shoulder to point.

Gordon

Blade length is 29¾ in., width at shoulder 1⅜ in. and depth of curve is 4½ in.

Strange about the crest facing to the right - something 'sinister' about it :D
