help with sword decoration 1

Postby andrewDeeley » Mon Apr 03, 2017 11:58 am

I have received some swords i bought in the USA and a couple have some decorations that i do not recognise and was hoping someone here may have seen before.

The first has a bulls head on top of a crown with the initials P N below. It also has 'Waterloo" above the bulls head, i am normally very sceptical
of anything bearing this title but I liked the sword overall to dismiss this.

thought i should add a full length picture.

There is a makers mark on the blade which I always find interesting but sadly it is almost entirely rubbed away. I think I might be able to work it out though.

thanks
Andrew

Andrew

The crest - a bull's head out of a ducal coronet - is that of the Neville family of Thornley, Notts. There was only one officer with the initials PN serving at Waterloo - Lieutenant Parke Percy Neville of the 30th (Cambridgeshire) Foot. He was quite a famous soldier - below is his entry in the Waterloo Roll Call. All looks perfectly genuine to me, congratulations. All you need to do now is find his MGS and Waterloo medals.

G'day Andrew,

Nice sword. I had done some research on it before the auction. Here is a bit more information about his family.

Cheers,

Bryce

thanks Bryce

did anyone else get anything from the auction?

The auctioneer would not tell me where the collection came from, does anyone know who the seller was?
