1812 Pattern

Postby sword335 » Tue Mar 13, 2018 2:26 pm

Just got Wallis and Wallis's latest catalogue and they are previewing some lots from their Spring Connoisseur's Sale. One sword is described as an "Other Ranks Heavy Dragoons 1812 Pattern sword" and they illustrate a disc hilt. Now,am I missing something here ? Will all be revealed in Richard's new book or have they just got it totally wrong ?

Chris.

I think they have their numbers mixed up, looks like a 1796p to me and there is not a 1812p designation. Could be a typo or what the consignour told them.

Perhaps they have a new cataloguer. If so, he needs to buy some books !

Maybe its like the fictional '1887' heavy cavalry officers' pattern and based on a sword they've seen made in 1812 or perhaps like the fictional '1814' Household Cavalry sword which got its name from a painting dated 1814 where the sword was shown.
