Thank you Will. I don’t know it’s provenance but I agree with what you say, ‘untouched’ condition. Having said that, there were no other ‘estate’ items in the auction. Most of the the other lots were low grade militaria. I’ll check the 15th Light Dragoons lists for the period to see if anything obvious pops up.
There’s another 15th Light Dragoons straight-bladed Sword with clipped back point also by Cullum at Plates 1.4 and 1.5 of a certain book .....

Afraid not Richard.
The sword in the portrait doesn’t appear to have a back piece to the hilt. Also a different shaped pommel.
I would date the sword to the mid 1780s
